New unified format or older Acta Inextensa?
The document’s issue date matters. The U.S. Department of State says Dominican civil certificates moved to a unified format on July 1, 2025, removing the former extract/inextensa distinction. For immigrant and K visa applications, its guidance still calls for the Acta Inextensa when using older documents issued before that date; documents issued afterward need not carry either label. This guidance concerns those visa applications, not every possible use of a birth certificate. Follow the instructions for your own application and receiving authority. We translate the record you upload; a translation cannot turn an older extract into a more complete civil record.
A clear copy prevents avoidable delays
- Include the whole acta, all edges and every page with text.
- Include reverse-side notes, stamps and any attached certification pages.
- Check that names, surnames, birth dates, registry numbers and book or folio references can be read.
- Send the receiving authority’s specific instructions and your deadline in the order notes.

What does the translation cost?
Standard pages contain up to 250 words. Pay $19/page for 1-4 pages, $17/page for 5-10 pages or $15/page for 11+ pages. One standard page costs $19; ten standard pages cost $170 before any further eligible discount. All prices are in USD and cover translation, not issuing a replacement civil certificate.

Questions about Dominican birth certificate translation
Can you translate both the new format and older certificates?
Yes, provided the text is readable. Before translating an older version, check that the receiving authority will accept that source document. Translation and the eligibility of the original are separate matters.
Is translation the same as legalization or an apostille?
No. A translation conveys the source text in another language; authentication concerns the underlying document. The Department of State’s guidance above says legalization of Dominican civil documents is not required for visa purposes. Do not apply that statement to a different country’s procedure: confirm its requirements separately.
Does a certified translation guarantee an approved application?
