What are the Current U.S. Immigration Requirements and Policies?

U.S. Immigration Requirements

There are certain documents and organized steps to fulfill to complete the US immigration requirements. The first and most important step is to check whether one is already a U.S. citizen by birth. There are also eligibility requirements which have to be met, such as those regarding age and years of residence, which, if not met, disqualifies the applicant from the process. A Form N-400, an application form for naturalization, will have to be filled out with two passport-style photos. Other documents which are required from the selected population groups may also be submitted.

Once requirements for US immigration are completed, be ready to submit them to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The status of application may be checked through their customer service center. An appointment will be set for biometrics acquisition and interview. The application will be reviewed and the applicant will be informed of a decision – whether it is granted, denied, or continued (other eligibility requirements or documents may have to be provided). A form will be filled out before the ceremony of oath of allegiance (Form N-455 or Notice of Naturalization Oath Ceremony) and the Permanent Resident Card will have to be submitted. Once approved, the applicant may participate in the ceremony the same day of the interview or a different schedule may be arranged. Lastly, a certificate of naturalization will be issued the same day, and the successful applicant will have to check the document for errors before leaving.

It is also a must that certain immigration documents are written in English. If yours isn’t written in English yet, you can get in touch with certified translation services around for an expert help.

Though there may be exceptions to the requirements, documents will have to be complete and factual upon submission. For specific concerns, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services may be contacted for further information.
